They denounce a "Christianophobe" act. A petition has been launched on the site "Don't touch my statue" by the collective "Cambrai Patrimoine". Its members are protesting against an exhibition dedicated to the release of the video game "Diablo IV"
The walls, and ceiling of the building were repainted for more than a month by the American artist Adam Miller. Images of the work and the chapel were used in a trailer, released in early March on social networks.
"Insulting advertising campaigns"
"The Jesuit chapel in Cambrai was covered with frescoes representing demons. The devil occupies the entire vault there, in a position of domination", chokes "Cambrai heritage", a collective "composed of local citizens", in reality, close far-right movements, especially royalists .
"A good number of citizens of Cambrai were extremely shocked when they discovered the announcement of this exhibition. As well as the use that had been made of this chapel for marketing purposes. No, France, its heritage, and its chapels are not for rent for insulting advertising campaigns", writes the collective.
"Just a decor"
"When they return, they will see that it is just a setting with characters who represent the fight of good against evil. These are not whole walls of demons", defends the municipality by the voice of Lydie Perraud, of the city of art and history service in Cambrai, with France 3 Hauts-de-France .
The chapel, classified as a historical monument in 1920, was acquired by the municipality in 1989. Many exhibitions and cultural events have been organized there in the past.
The exhibition is to be discovered from May 6 to June 11, every day from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Sundays and public holidays included), specifies the city.
