Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has stated that his country possesses evidence that illegal shipments of fentanyl, a potent opioid drug, are arriving from China.

Hidden packages from China were discovered full of Fentanyl
López Obrador disclosed that a container carrying hidden packages of the drug was discovered in Lázaro Cárdenas, a port in the Pacific. The president added that he would request the Chinese government's assistance in preventing these shipments.
Fentanyl has become the primary contributor to drug overdose deaths in the US, according to US authorities. López Obrador had earlier written to Chinese President Xi Jinping in March. Seeking Chinese assistance in the fight against drug trafficking.
The intercepted container weighed 34-35kg (75 pounds) and contained traces of fentanyl and methamphetamine concealed in fuel resin. The cargo had originated from Qingdao, China, and traveled through Busan, South Korea, before arriving in Mexico.
Fentanyl is known to be up to 50 times more potent than heroin. Responsible for more deaths among Americans under the age of 50 than any other cause, according to the US Drug Enforcement Administration. Mexican drug cartels are blamed for distributing fentanyl to users across the US.
